Why wiki cannot be multilingual by default? By the way, MediaWiki has the preliminary support of that back in 1.10 when I've started to use it for local projects. It's a global variable $wgLanguageCode and the corresponding request parameter uselang=langcode. Why not to use the correct source language code when "transferring" a user from small local wiki to commons, so the links to commons will have an appropriate uselang=code parameter. Dmitriy
