Thanks to all who have replied to my original note.

I am aware of programs like Skype but really need feedback on products like the ipconnect (or something similar) desktop phone.

$25 for one year service and $65 for the phone is reasonable enough, but even at that it would be a waste if the quality made it unusable.

This type of hardware I think would be easier to use for non-techies or folks not that familiar with computers in general.
