AFAIK, all USB2 enclosures are backwards compatible - when you plug them into a winxp computer a warning comes > up about using a high speed device in a slow port, but it still works fine.

I have lots of experience with this. I use a USB 2.0 120 GB external hard drive to copy files to new computers I have built and to computers I have formatted and reinstalled Windows on. With the old 1.1 USB it works, but is very slow. It takes lots longer for the external hard drive to set itself up on the 1.1 USB computer etc. If you are not copying gigabytes it is ok to be this slow. If you are copying many gigabytes, start the process when you go to bed. It may be ready in the morning when you get up.

This is the handy part about having my computer shop in my home. I have a total of 6 useable work stations (2 of which share a monitor, keyboard and mouse on two computers). I can run long jobs as I sleep. Although I seldom have a job that needs to run overnight, I have the capability to run 6 overnight jobs on any night.

Have any of you technicians hooked up a wireless keyboard and mouse to your bench yet? I have and it is very nice! It gets rid of the wire clutter. It works also during POST etc. I first hooked it to an old computer that runs Windows 98 and has mouse drivers loaded on the C Drive for use in Real DOS mode. I hit F8 (see? they wireless keyboard worked!) and booted to the C Prompt (it loaded the mouse drivers) and the wireless mouse worked without Windows 98 loading. For emphasis: This is not DOS behind Windows. This is Real DOS mode without Windows loading. This is versatility! Try a set! It really relieves you of wire clutter on your bench.
