Subject: Re: OT-Credit card theft
The banks are raping small businesses... my business checking account fees just went up to $25 a month. I could close the > account and move it to a less expensive place, but it's a hassle because of the merchant account and other services that
My credit card machine cost me $1200.00 and I pay $25.00 per month minimum in fees.
My check processing machine cost me $600.00 and I pay $15.00 per month minimum fees.
Years ago I padded my price on a new computer by $50.00 and I offer a $50.00 discount if the customer pays in US Currency which well over 90% opt to do. It is against the rules for a business (the governement is exempt from these rules) to charge a customer extra if a credit card is used, but not against the rules to give a discount if US Currency is used.
Doing business out of my home is not cheap. Doing business from a downtown location would add a minimum of $3000.00 per month to my costs of doing business. We small businesses are just going along for the ride, an expensive hobby doing a community service. Or you have to charge excessive rates just to cover the cost of doing business, especially if you do not operate out of your home.
