Lona, forget about the meta stuff. Years ago search engines used it, Now it is 
all about content. Concentrate on the writing and make it relevant to what 
people are searching for and you'll show up in or near the top of search 
results. How long has your site being up? If it is recent then the spiders and 
crawlers may not had made the round yet.

There SEO experts out there doing fancy things like cloaking and charge an 
arm and a leg for it. Eventually the search engines got wise to it and you, the 
site owner, pays the price as your site's ranking drops to the bottom or worse 
still, gets banned.
