What do folks recommend for nearline/offline storage for MS Exchange, I am thinking primarily in terms of storage requirements under SOX and NASD here.
The planned server is going to have 50-75 users over the next year. The Current load would be about 35 users. At least 10 of these users have multiple local 2gb PST files (mainly the laptop users). Basically I want something that makes it easy to access the emails both from the local office where the exchange machine will be located, from remote offices over vpn links and from road warrior laptops. Under Unix I could use something like hypermail http://www.hypermail.org to convert the mbox or other mail storage files to html files, put them on a secure website for nearline use and write them to dvd and have a nice offline archive. I suspect the nearline/offline storage would also be used for data and file storage too. Does a similar tool exist that can be used with MS Exchange? Ideally I want something that allows me to have nearline storage on a local server or NAS and then offline storage on DVD for older mail. This might be 2 different products I realize, also even if it requires manual movement from online to nearline to offline, that would be fine as long as it can be procedurized and done regularly.
