Oh we were discussing other kinds of tapes such as tape backups.

Actually, negatives were generally safer starting in the 1930's with the
introduction
of cellulose, but that did not improve "enough" and catch on till the late
1940's or
early 1950's. The date I gave was for professional type polyester based films...
I was still "in the ball park". ;-)
