No flavor of Windows 98 is stable and neither is ME. If you want a stable OS either consider the options Windows NT 4 Workstation, 2000 or XP and yes they do take more memory and cpu power to run but once you upgrade your memory and cpu or get a slightly more powerful laptop the benefits of running a flavor of NT, 2000 or XP is well worth the investment in stability and
dependability.

That's not what he asked. Must be nice to be given a multiple choice question then pick an answer that is not among the list of answers. Most laptops do NOT have a CPU that is upgradeable. If the machine won't run XP it sure as heck won't run XP64 so what are you talking about ? </rhetorical> You also infer that all Athlon 64s are of the FX series & that is also NOT true.

If you have something meaningful to add to the discussion by all means please and even if it's not meaningful is ok once in a while but to deliberately lead some one down the wrong path or as in this case a path that is not desired or able to tread is horrendously misleading. Some one might actually believe that they could put XP or XP64 on PII-150 since the WinHome list can be read by most anyone including those who don't know better. It's answers like yours that lead people to tell me that they want a AMD Celeron based machine.

OBTW Roger & FWIW, ME is NOT a flavor of 98 strictly speaking but it is half way between 98se & XP which imho is an abomination but as always YMMV.

The wife/girlfriend still runs 98se & she loves it as it's been very stable. I never had any real problems with it & only wanted XP for the extras even tho most of them aren't required either.
