Interesting thought about thinking! I believe it is WD drives that, for a reasonable extra fee paid to the manufacturer become so much better that they last for 5, instead of 1 year, regardless of who, or how they are installed
Logical, ain't it not JimB. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Glazier" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 27, 2005 12:47 AM Subject: Re: 400g SATA HDs I'm thinking that "they" are thinking that a Retail buyer, (homeowner?), will beat up a hard drive installing it more than an "experienced builder" that buys a bare drive. OEMs (and OEM drives) are different, they get a better price and "no" warranty... (They provide their own?) Normally retail packaged products have better "privileges". Rich ++++++ Some of those barebone HD packages may have a 3 year limited waranty if you know where to look. Circuity City is known for selling the waranty as a separate package on almost all of its electronics which isn't included in the package so a word of caution applies here becuase they can charge you extra for it.
