Checked the BIOS is set to recognise the drive

And - you surely would have set the jumpers properly

Possible check that the drive MBR hasn't been corrupted

If you remove power from the new drive,
can the XP CD setup see the drive
If not - then can it see it as per the 'original' setup?

Bios is set and sees the drive, jumper is set to primary slave.
CD wxp pro upgrade sees the drive in the original setup but does not
offer a repair install, only format install.

Re you reinstalling 98 THEN upgrading to xp? no need, just install xp
from its upgrade disk, then insert the win98 cd when prompted, you get a
much cleaner xp install that way

Did that 3 years ago. Now I need to know why wxp pro cant see the
original disk from the
new disk with the same wxp pro upgrade installed.
