Can you get into the BIOS - well how would you know with no monitor display
Got a floppy drive - does the light go on, then off Will it recognise a disk is in the drive, Will it recognise there is a CD in the drive Does it bleep at you when you power it up if so - how many bleeps Basically, I'd say put the drive in another PC - but not as booting drive and preferably on a separate cable as IDE 1, rather than IDE 0 you may be able to recover the data The eMachine - are ALL the fans working Assuming that the problem is only one of the PSU, Motherboard, Memory, CPU, or BIOS failure Only way to tell if memory, or CPU is to swap out to another PC and see if that one works with the suspect components ----------------------------------- Final considerations, where was it bought when was it bought In warrantee, PCWorld etc - £50 to look at it service- with possible added fix it costs Rough estimate £50 each for PSU, Motherboard, CPU, 512Mb memory Could be £200 if most of it has gone with whatever went first That plus the £50 to look at it - consider a new PC (Packard Bell) - 17" Flat screen, DVD DL drive, 160Gb hard Drive £399.99 @ PC World (UK pricing 'cos that's where I am) JimB ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rod Lindgren" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 03, 2005 6:00 PM Subject: HARDware: EMachine won't boot A friend has an Emachine (1.6 gig AMD Athlon, XP Home SP2). Yesterday morning when he turned on the machine, it appeared to shut down before it could boot. At first, I thought the video card (onboard) had died. The monitor works on other computers. I pulled a video card from another computer, but there was still no video. I do not believe there is any disk activity either. I was thinking of swapping the C drive of another computer and see what happens. There is power and the cooling fans run. Any suggestions?
