1) With an insecure network, aren't I exposing my computer to "ills"?

If you connect to any public network, make sure your
firewall program is running, as well as real-time antivirus and antispyware.

Also, if you are not using wireless encryption (WEP or WPA), someone
could hack into your computer. At home, if you live in a quiet residential
neighborhood, this is unlikely, but is a different situation if you are
in a multi-unit apartment complex.
