I've read about that same information from an article in the washington post on
how
Laserjet printers no matter what brand can all do the very same thing:

Sleuths Crack Tracking Code Discovered in Color Printers
10 19 2005
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/18/AR2005101801663.html

And speaking of which also

EFF Reveals Codes in Xerox Printers
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/17/AR2005101701219.html

In both articles the Government claims to state that the tracking ID codes are
used to track and crack down on counterfeiting money. Yeah right its been in
use for ten years and we have just known about it now. My real hunch is that
the DOJ, CIA and the DOH most recently have been using these ID codes for years
during the 80's to track secret satellite photos among terrorist who would
share them over internet IP printers.

I'll also bet the CIA and DOH also have been using these printer ID codes to
track spies sharing printed photos with encoded microdot messages and it was
partly the reason as to how Eldridge Aimes was caught in a covert spy espenage
ring exchanging US millitary secrets with the former Soviet Union by using
photos encoded with microdot messages. The messages can only be seen under
ultraviolet light with a high powered microsocope.

An interesting article concerning ways your printed pages can be
traced to you plus a link about Lexmark printers installing spyware.

A reader recently asked me this intriguing question about laser
printers and personal privacy: "I've heard that some printers embed
a secret coded dot pattern on each printed page, and that if you
decode the dots, you can determine the owner of the printer and the
exact time the page was printed. That sounds like a privacy
violation -- is it true?"

This one has all the markings of a silly urban legend, but in fact
it's true. Find out what the U.S. government has to do with this,
and learn how to decode the little yellow dots here:
