I was just noting that Microsoft is on a roll, supporting the
proprietary stuff more and more. As for now Microsoft approves and
gives me the numbers. They very well may discontinue this. I fully
expect more and more moves to be made by Microsoft to circumvent
gutting proprietary stuff. I certainly do not have to call Microsoft
to activate a clean install of Windows XP on a white box.
MSFT is proprietary in that they're trying to protect their business.
Firstly you can't blame anyone from trying to protect what they've
invested research time & money in. Secondly you can't blame MSFT from
helping others try to protect their business either especially when
it's good for MSFT. I'm sure even the lowliest of brand names sells
more of MSFT products than you do.
I know I will eventually have to purchase a Windows XP Media Edition
OEM just to get the media, since I doubt any white box builders uses
this operating system. If I do, I will still use and activate it
with the customer's COA etc. This will happen when a customer is
willing to pay for it to get a clean install. I realize I lose lots
of business the way I do business.
If you had purchased the MAPS [MSFT Action Pak Subscription]
subscription you would have an OEM copy of Windows XP Media Center
Edition. Fwiw any Brand Name box performs better if much of the junk
is unloaded & it still costs much less than what you're selling. Why
anyone would pay twice to load the same thing on their system is
beyond me but when one sells ice to Eskimos I can't imagine there is
much of a market but there shall always be a few takers as PT Barnum
said there is a sucker born every minute.
