TOP [the original poster] made no mention of the file system so how do you know that the file system is FAT ? TOP did state that the OS was Win2k so the likelihood of the file system being FAT is NIL & therefore has nothing to do with his problem.

The path lengths should be compared without the switches so the 2 command line paths are not that similar but in neither case is he near a supposed 127 character limit. Why any one would want to shorted the PATH variable is beyond me as I would assume that could cause more problems in the future. The only thing that should be increased is the Command History & the Number of Buffers.
