While us oldies can remember when every byte counted this doesn't yield much space by todays standards. I have 51 of these kinds of folders & they only take up 311 meg. I have 6 [drive]:\windows\ subfolders that are completely empty that don't have a $ & I suppose I could delete those as well since if the folder isn't there when an app needs it I assume that it'll recreate the folder.

We don't know why he wants to clean out folders tho. If it's just because they bother him then by all means delete all windows subfolders starting with a $ but if you're wanting to make a clean backup then you'll want to consider deleting the TIF [temp internet files] "[drive]:\Documents and Settings\USERSNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\" & the user's temp files at "[drive]:\Documents and Settings\USERSNAME\Local Settings\Temp\"
