Hi James,

Thanks for the tip.

James,
Thanks for the information. I purchased a Philips DVP642 and it played my home burned DVDs fine but I could not get it to "see" any Purchased commercial DVDs. I was slightly disappointed but I had a DVD that did commercial so I wired them up to use both and forgot about (it only cost $59 for goodness sake!)

Your message sent me off the the owners group that you mentioned and thoughtfully provided a URL for and lo and behold, I found my problem on a search and I found the solution! Turns out you can program the player for any area. I followed the directions and I have a fully functional Phillips DVP642. It just makes my heart warm to find ways to get around annoying and unreasonable roadblocks that were put in our path by the DVD industry (more correctly, the entertainment industry).

Thanks James for the "heads up". You saved the day for me.
