I had a similar problem with XP pro. After one of MS auto updates I
lost all network connections and the only way I could return to
normality was to give each computer a fixed address AND tell it to use
the ISPs DCHP address. No matter what I did none of my 4 machines would
talk to my server or the outside world.
I also to stopped my own DHCP server but I can still use but have moved
the start address to 25.
The problem was that my main computer started to us the MS default LAN
address and NOT what it was supposed to.
Click on the network icon on the tray and you will fin 2 tabs on the
ensuing window. Go to the support one and you will see the machine's
address. Its probably noting like what it should be.
Go back to the first and select properties and then scroll down to TCP
and select properties. Here you can give it a fixed address and
everything else you need then go back to your router and do the same.
