As Dan said, we have an application where someone in our directory (student, staff, faculty) can create a time-limited sponsored account for you. This substitutes for guest access for parents, friends, contractors, conference attendees, etc. Someone we already know can vouch for you for a limited time. Not public, as you can't create your own account without a sponsor. Sorry, I thought Dan's description was sufficient...
