Hi,

In theory, with AireOS 8.0 you can mix legacy clients with 802.11r capable clients:

"Support is added for the 802.11r mixed mode. You do not have to create a separate WLAN for 802.11r support. You can specify the non-802.11r clients to associate with an SSID that is enabled with 802.11r."

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn80.html

Anyway, I do not remember where, but I read that is necessary that client's drivers to be relatively up-to-date.

Any client that does not have an *understanding* of 802.11r, will not be
able to associate. I think the 802.11 header format changed, and the
client will not understand the association packet anymore.

You'll have to run a separate SSiD for 802.11r to mitigate any
compatibility issues.

We are evaluating enabling one or both of 802.11k and 802.11r on our
Aruba controllers to improve roaming times on our 1x SSID. Before we
start testing I wanted to find out if others have enabled either k
or r and what your experiences have been.

    In particular, this statement (from

    scares me:

"If dot11r is enabled, iOS clients such as iPad/iPhone gen1
(limitation on iOS) and all MAC-OS clients (limitation on MAC) fail
    to connect to the network"

Also, does anyone have a good reference for clients that have issues
with k and/or r? With the exception of
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5535, I haven't found much.
