We allow users to self-register and send password via text message. Authentication is good for 12 Hours and they can re-register
We also allow conference guests to login with one-day conference code which is good for that day. While on the topic of guest portals. What do people think of using social media accounts as a guest login?. Sponsored accounts: - username/password is generated by the department, and it is up to the department to give this to the guest - valid for up to 30 days, as set by the sponsor In both cases, once the guest is logged in through a web login, the MAC is cached, and the user does not have to log in again, as long as their account is valid. Side note, we also use eduroam as our primary wireless network. Anyone with valid eduroam credentials will just connect automatically. -- Jonathan Waldrep Network Engineer Network Infrastructure and Services Virginia Tech On Thu, May 10, 2018 at 12:08 PM, Watters, John <john.watt...@ua.edu<mailto:john.watt...@ua.edu>> wrote: We also use 7 days with a 3 renewal limit, giving them 28 days. I think this resets after 1 year. But, our group does not take care of this. The Security folks handle this with their NAC. And, exceptions can be made on a MAC address basis. This summer we plan to make changes to our guest wireless solution. We plan to have users go to a captive portal page on our Aruba controllers. Currently we have our re-authentication interval set to 8 hours. We were wondering how often other universities are making wireless guests re-authenticate to their networks. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Have a good one!
