I only have experience with the Lucent/Orinoco Silver cards, which have worked absolutely fantastic for me. These are now on the cheap side, especially used, so I have to recommend if you're trying to get quality on a shoe-string here... There is a tiny connector, and you can get a 5 foot cable with an N-type connector on the other end for about $25 from lots of sources, including eBay. Most antennas you'll buy (or build from a cantenna-style plan on the web) will use a matching N-type connector or pigtail...Hey, I've got a couple questions someone perhaps could comment on.- I'd like to get a pcmcia card that can accept an external antenna. Any recommendation on a particular brand/model ?
Not applicable? You're talking about trying to broadcast your Access Point outward from your car? If your talking about wardriving, directional is definitely the way to go, though you can still pick up a ton of APs with the Orinoco Silver card and no antenna at all, and a light-gain antenna like say a 5 dbi omni will probably work very well for starters...
- As for omnidirectional antenna's , what amount of dbi would be acceptable for use in ones car ;) I take it a directional antenna is
not really applicable in such a case ?
