A dc-dc converter will be more efficient than a 7805 regulator... less
heat..

Subject: [BAWUG] DWL-900 - 12v into power port? or will it catch on fire.

Hi,

I saw a website on putting 12v into the DWL-900 ( a 5v recommended
system ) here:
http://www.ralphfowler.com/links/dwl900.html

I can't tell if the 12v is going into the system through a lot of
ethernet, or if, with the power regulator he's talking about, that you
can actually put 12v into the power port of the system.

I have a field station I'm making all inside a pelican. I'd be psyched
to be able to use my 12v battery to power the station. Right now, I'm
using 3 7805 5v regulators to give it power, and it creates both a lot
of heat, and a lot of loss.

Before I put 12v straight into the system, I'd like to know if someone
else is reading that page the way I am. Any advice?

thanks!
tim
