figure out why his Apple G3 would connect but none of his PCs would. We finally figured out the discrepancy on the wiring and discovered to our amazement that the G3 boxes would self-configure to our mis-wiring.
This seems to be a standard feature of the newest ethernet chipsets. The HP switch I just worked with self-configures too. No more cross-over cables needed. (Woo hoo!)
Its funny that Apple never talks about these neat little features.
It is documented in the manual.
