I have an older Advantest that does 9k to 8 gig. It's very nice but very hard to figure out. I wish there was a training video or something. The biggest problem with it is that few have used them so finding help has been all but impossible. Doing it over again I'd go with HP or something else more main stream.
I also just got a Berkley Varitronics Bumblebee. I'm finally getting it figure out but I'm disappointed in the non adjustable sweep rates, discrepancy between what my AP's claim as the RSSI and what the unit shows as detected rssi. I'm told that the last item is due to the ap's reporting rssi that includes processing gain where the analyzer only sees the actual signal. It claims that the unit is calibrated so I can't say either way on that. It's also limited to 900mhz, 2400-2500, and 5 gig. Nice package and great tech support (I had to call them to ask how to use some functions). So far the easiest to use, by a very wide margin, has been the small Avcom units that Hotton/EC sells. The screens are easy to see in bright light, they are VERY simple to use etc. They also have the ability to be remotely viewed (I think I can do that with my BV unit as well) and are battery operated. The down side is that they need fairly expensive addons to see multiple bands. I'm still vacillating as to whether or not I'm happy with the BV vs. the Avcom option. I'd suggest you try to rent what you are thinking of before buying. Hope that helps, marlon ----- Original Message ----- From: "CheifLabRat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "WISPA General List" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2008 7:10 AM Subject: [WISPA] spectrum analyzers >I work for a rural telco/isp doing more and more wireless all the time > and have reached the point where we need a spectrum analyzer of our own. > > We've got two kinds of 700mhz, 5.8 backhauls, 11 ghz backhauls going in, > and a big 1.9/2.1 project underway. > > Bet you guys have lots of good advice. > > Thanks in advance. > > Ned > -- > _________________________________________ > ChiefLabRat > Thornapple Lab > Back-Forty, Northwest Wisconsin > > Studying Networks and Security Since 1970 > > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > WISPA Wants You!
