The biggest problem with your idea will be the fact you're on the ground - not going to work too well for 2.4 and 5.x. 900 will be better, but not ideal.
The better part of what you're doing is if you see a -75 somewhere, then the houses adjacent are going to be greater to or equal! Starting out new the costs for everything - Brian's solution is significantly better. He offers it in Google Maps (great for show and tell) and Google Earth (great for installers/remote site surveys/etc).
