Thanks for the reply Larry. I've got things working right now, but not the way I would
like. At the moment, the laptop can get on the net, but can't see the other computers
in my home network. Same workgroup, same subnet, but no joy. How do I go about
configureing the wireless as an access point? I've looked in the book but can't seem
to find it. Will look again.

Brian

Brian,

I have a similar setup. Configure the WRT45G as an access point. It
doesn't need to be a router. Turn on the DHCP on the D-Link and let the
WRT45G get its setup from the D-Link. Turn off the DHCP on the WRT45G and
let the D-Link's DHCP serve all the devices whether wired or wireless. If
you need a device to have a static address, set it.

First time poster here, short time lurker.

I have an existing wired network (D-Link DI-704P) that I wish to add a
wireless (Lynksys WRT54G) to. The currentl plan is to leave the existing
wired network in place (currently in the basement, below ground level) and
mount the wireless router on the main floor. I'm having some difficulty
getting the wireless router onto the net.

So, a short history:

Verified internet connection by one of the wired computers
Good wireless connection between the router and my laptop
The wired router "sees" the wireless as evidenced by the lights on the wired
router

I've got a little bit of networking understanding, probably just enough to
be dangerous. :) The DHCP on the wired router is turned off, and static IP
address have been assigned. The IP address of the wireless has been changed,
and added to the wired router to allow access, as well the mac address has
been added.

I have set the gateway for the wireless router to the IP address of the
wired router, the subnet mask is the same, and I've entered DNS numbers as
well to no avail. Somewhere I have it configured wrong.

Any and all ideas greatly appreciated.
Brian
