If youre doing everything in UTF-8, and you don't need to convert anything
from one encoding to another, you should be able to do this, I think.

Here's a chunk from a message posted to this list earlier this year which
gives you the basics about dealing with multi-byte characters. (Japanese
encodings in this case, but UTF-8 would be the same as far as I know.)

1) Turn OFF Tango's encodeResults , that is
<@ASSIGN SCOPE=system NAME=encodeResults VALUE="false">
as this will prevent Tango from mangling High ASCII values
into like turning e into #233;

2) Re-write the HTTP header to include the actual character set you are
using.
By default Tango is set to write the header with iso-8859-1

3) Use caution when using the built-in e-mail action.
It's design is ONLY for iso based 8-bit character sets.
Double byte character sets may or may not work
as expected. You may find a way to get the action to work,
but use it at your own risk

4) The Tango editor still has some unexpected strangenesses
when working with nvarchar (unicode) datatypes. You
will need to modify any builder apps that used
non-8-bit character datatypes.

-------------------------------

Also bear in mind that meta-tags dealing with string processing (<@LENGTH>,
<@REGEX>, etc.) are liable to misbehave. For example, <@LENGTH> will give
you the number of bytes in a string, not the number of characters, which may
or may not be what you want.

If only some of your data uses UTF-8, and you need to convert between
different encodings, things get a bit more problematic. Let me know if you
need more info on this.

Good luck,

| Thanks Ben,
|
| I am trying to return a results html page with the text similar to the
| following:
|
| &tango_mmButton=<@VAR l_mmButton SCOPE=local ENCODING=URL>&
|
| &tango_mmLink=<@VAR l_mmLink SCOPE=local ENCODING=URL>&
|
| &tango_webButton=<@VAR l_webButton SCOPE=local ENCODING=URL>&
|
| &tango_webLink=<@VAR l_webLink SCOPE=local ENCODING=URL>&
|
| &tango_varsLoaded=true&
|
|
| I want my VARS to be encoded as UTF-8 unicode, I am afraid that Tango
| may
| not support this. I am very worried.
