The very best advice I can give you is to make
your purchase decision *today* because the price is going up starting
Monday.
Cost and
Performance: Professional Servers are priced to be
cost-effective if you are going to set up more than two Witango daemons.
If you have a 4-CPU box, a Professional license will be most cost-effective for
you, and the performance will be outstanding. If you have a 2-CPU box with
no intention to upgrade beyond the 2 CPU's, then two Standard Server Licenses
will serve you at the least cost.
Redundancy: As for redundancy,
nothing ... absolutely nothing ... can beat two separate but identical boxes,
each sharing load. Having said that, we tend to run boxes that are
themselves fully redundant. Each machine has 4 powersupplies connected to
two separate power sources, mirrored hard drives and more, to ensure that the
failure of one component causes no loss of service.
Upgrade Path: There is no upgrade
path from R:Tango to Witango 5. The licenses remain
separate.

Subject: Witango-Talk: Upgrade
I presently use Win2K
Server, R:Tango 2000, R:Base 6.5+
I am going to upgrade to Witango 5 and
am looking for some advice. I
anticipate that in the near future I will need
more than one server or CPU
to host my sites.
Is it best to buy the
professional version and run on a multi CPU server or
buy multiple standard
versions and run on individual servers? I would like
to consider performance,
cost, and redundancy.
