A suggestion:

I don't use either method. I have never liked the ftp built into the studio, and I use a much better way of tweak, upload, test, repeat.

Your dev studio comes with a 2 thread license, set it up on your dev machine, or a machine on your subnet that you can hit. This machine should have a file share that you can mount on your dev machine. You test server should have cache turned off. You can open and edit your files, and hit the test server url for your test site. Any changes you make are immediate, because the cache is turned off. Once you have tweaked and feel good about your app. Use a SECURE method to transfer your files to your deployment server.

FTP is horribly insecure, use secure webdav or a secure fileshare to transfer your test files to your deployment.

I have a local copy of every site/application I manage/write. I never edit the code on my deployment server, until it has been tested on my test server.

This system has served me well for some time.

Robert.

You misunderstood what I was trying to say. I agree with you whole

access in the interim.

The menus have just been disabled as selecting them without the underlying
libraries that the deployment needs would crash the Dev Studio. The code
has been left in place so that it can be enabled as soon as possible.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. One of the best features about using
projects is the ability to do file transfers to various servers. I
would typically define both a development site and a production site
while storing my taf files on the machine that is running the dev
studio. I've even had situations where I had three sites, adding a
separate QA site. It passes my development testing, I move it to QA. It
passes QA, I move it to production.

As much as the OS X interface with FTP helps, it is still not the same.
I understand about the libraries not being ported over yet, but if/when
they are, could you please look at bringing this feature back?

Hope this helps,

Steve Smith

Brian,
This functionality has been disabled as the libraries that it relied
on have
not been ported to OS X yet and it is a substantial redevelopment to
enable
it with the current carbonised version of the Dev Studio. It is also
much
easier on OS X to interface with FTP. You can now log onto an FTP site
using the "Connect to Server" item under the "Go" menu in the "Finder".
Simply type ftp://<server addr>/<path> and OS X will mount the FTP
server as
a volume on your desktop. It make deployment quite easy.

Howdy!

Just got OS X at work (yeah, I know) and immediately downloaded and
installed the OS X studio demo. Works great. Love it.

But...

I want to define a site so I can upload some files, but the "Define
Site" menu option is grayed out, and I can't get to it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!
