Good points certainly, but I'm with Roland about the ODBC (or at least JDBC, as ODBC never worked very well before, but JDBC did) issue. I'm impressed with the features, but Filemaker has historically been so entrenched in the Mac market to have them ship a product without a feature they touted so strongly in the last release seems to be a huge step backward. It's just too insular a stance to take with their software - there are too many reasons to make sure it's there; Witango connectivity is only one. There are a lot of other reasons that external applications would need/want to connect with FMP, and without that available I think it will really hurt adoption of this version and retention of current customers.

past and run a client as a data source for Witango. But I would argue that
that was never a good solution in the 1st place. I want a multi-threaded
service like FMS 7 to be my data source and for me as a connection to
Witango it has been dead for years.
FMS7 will offer the possibility to connecting to it as a backend and in some
cases may offer an advantage, especially when the same server is running the
in house data.
There are so many new cool things about 7 that the idea of building a
browsed based front end to it in most cases is not going to make sense of be
cost effective.
On the other hand because it is possible to architect a database now that
looks very much like a SQL schema it will be possible to interact with a FM7
solution via a Witango solution.
I would guess that the Mac ODBC, JDBC connectivity will be there this summer
on release. But on the off chance it is not I don't see it really hurting
the product.
