look in the apache error log (maybe /var/log/httpd/error_log).

You probably need to add the lines to the Apache httpd.conf file to load the plugin. It should look something like this (usually the last lines of the file):
# Witango Module LoadModule WitangoModule modules/wapache2.so WitangoModule wapache2.so
