It’s notable that the installers for both products are themselves Java
applications, so in theory Java will be required (and auto-installed) simply to
run the installer.

TeraScribe of course requires Java as a Java application, but it is still
optional for TeraScript Server.

I’m glad to hear about these successes. I wasn’t expecting any problems with
the Studio, I was just considered about Java not being available by default.
There are also a few deprecated commands we use in the Studio that may break at
some point.

As for TeraScript Server, it’s looking like OS X client will work without
modification and it’s only after the Server package is installed that there may
be an issue.

This morning we devised a plan to validate TeraScript and TeraScribe on OS X
10.7 immediately after we release the 6.1.1 builds. Therefore any 10.7 specific
changes, along with official support, will show up in the 6.1.3 release,
probably in August.

Thank you for this invaluable feedback.

Robert

Apple has also released an updated version of Java for Lion. Would be a good
idea to update.

I have been able to run a previously installed (snow leopard) Witango 6.0.7
server under Lion (Lion clean install, apps and computer settings transferred)
after re-running the InstallWitango script). I also ran the Java for Lion
installer, too.

Not sure what would have happened with a fresh install of Witango server
however. My guess is that you must make sure that Java is installed on Lion
before attempting an install, just to be on the safe side.

Haven't tested Teracribe server beta install yet.

I can't speak to Witango 6 Server, but the Dev Studio works just fine. Java may
not be installed by default, but any attempt at running a Java app will prompt
a download of the Java framework. It is also available as a stand alone install
from Apple if you'd like to install it before trying to run the Dev Studio. The
Java version for Lion is the same version as Snow Leopard, so I have seen no
compatibility issues.

Nope, you absolutely CANNOT install Rosetta back onto Lion.

However, Witango 6 is not running under Rosetta, which is not the issue. It's
Java that's the issue in this case.

The biggest issue would be if you are using any rosetta stuff at all anywhere.
If so rosetta needs to be installed as an additional installtion. I think you
can still do that in 10.7.

All-

I’m posting to clarify our current position in regard to OS X 10.7 support.

The currently shipping Witango 6.0 products are not, and will not be, tested on
OS X 10.7. We consider this version essentially locked to OS X 10.6.

We are expecting to release 6.1 in July. Currently we’ve been focused on known
bugs and improvements and have not been testing or preparing 6.1 to work with
OS X 10.7. At this time we don’t plan to support OS X 10.7 in the initial
release of TeraScript/TeraScribe 6.1.

Depending on the work that needs to be done, we will begin supporting OS X 10.7
in either a minor release of 6.1 (eg. 6.1.3) or in 6.2. In either case, it will
be over the summer.

Hopefully changes amount to basically installation issues. The fact that Java
is no longer installed by default, and that the Server product is an upgrade to
the client mean that most of our installation process won’t work without
modification.

If you are considering upgrading to OS X 10.7 soon, please be aware that
Witango 6.0 may not work properly and we may not be able to correct your issue
for a few weeks.

We will make more announcements as we move closer to release. Feel free to
email [email protected] with any questions you may have.

Thank you,

Robert
