Cultures is weird and complex which sad since it has to be used so much. The 
other uses of colon are just misguided (followed the wrong pattern).

To be fair, it was intention(ish): -cultures is slightly odd in that
order matters so, as I recall, Derek and I spoke about having a single
switch rather than multiple switches (like -b). Not a great decision in
retrospect, I'll grant...<g>
