Definitely a major requirement for us too.

There is a great scripting tool by Jasper Smith called RSScripter
(http://www.sqldbatips.com/showarticle.asp?ID=62) that extracts selected
folders, datasource, reports, etc from an RS server and generates script
for deployment with the RS.EXE command line tool.

We currently just run this manually as part of our product install
process but I had thought we would eventually use a custom action to
execute the script from Wix although this is not optimal it's probably
the best we can do at present.

Jasper Smith might be interested in generating Wix XML from his tool
that will then execute actions equivalent to what RS.EXE does.

Better still M$ could codeplex the RS.EXE code and save a lot of work
for others.

Hi All,

Late reply.
Neil, I would be interested to see the code if possible. I wrote a hacky
.rss script to scan a directory and deploy everything in there but it is
patchy at best, especially when dealing with multiple datasets in
reports.

Ultimately I would like to see the extension available for community use
as proposed by David Reed however with deadlines of prototypes looming I
think I will have to settle for a more simple approach.

As always, looking forward to hearing about advances in this area.

Thanks,
Murray

I have written a tool to upload reports to a SSRS server and then fix up
the data sources. My requirement was to allow development teams to
create the files and then distribute them in a standard and controlled
way, something that SSRS doesn't offer as standard. I chose to do this
as a command line application written in .Net but I guess this could be
converted to a custom action for use in WiX.

Would anyone be interested in this code? If so I will see if it can be
sanitised so I can share it.

Neil

Murray, I was asked about this by customers and MVPs @ TechEd, so it's
on the radar (mine, at least). If you'd like to feed your requirements
into my team and/or SSRS', I'd be happy to hear them offline. Ditto for
Integration Services.

If my team builds "it" (whatever it is) for SSRS deployment, we would
most likely contribute it back to WiX directly or create a community
project in CodePlex.
