I made sure all those files were deleted, rebuilt it and tried it again.

I know the error it is mentionis is an 'invalid args' error, but I can't
see anything wrong with the args I gave in the WXS file.

Below is the log (/L*vx) with the relevant actions:

Did you clear out all the .wixobj, .wixlibs, .wixpdbs, .msm, .msi files
that were built with a previous version of the toolset? If so, and your
still seeing a problem can you please share the snippet of the log file
that has all of the error messages + 10 lines on either side (just in
case)?

Subject: Re: [WiX-users] Certificate error

Hello All,

I am experiencing the same issue, same symptoms. I manually deleted the
bin and obj folders and did a rebuild, but the result was the same.

Rob, when you say "an old table definition that is getting in and being
confused" what does that mean? How does one test for that? I opened
the MSI in Orca, and I did not see anything that particularly stands
out.

I did see there was a thread ("Uninstall certificate error") indicating
that bug fix was expected for the "next build." That bug was also one I
was experiencing in v3.0.4415.0, which caused me to try v3.0.4513.0,
which has lead me to my current state. Is the aforementioned "next
build" v3.0.4513.0, or will it be a future weekly release?

Thanks.

Raj

Except you want to look at the hex number by the "Error". In this case:
0x80070057 = E_INVALIDARG.

Can you be sure you recompiled all of your files. It is possible you
have an old table definition that is getting in and being confused.

The error code 3 is a Win32 error for file not found. You can find win32
error codes online or in MSDN or at a dos prompt by typing 'net helpmsg
3'
and it will give you the error text a lot of the time.

I suggest using filemon (from MS) to see what file is being looked for
and
where.

I updated to the most recent WiX build. Now I get errors even during
instalation

InstallCertificates: Error 0x80070057: Failed to open PFX file.
InstallCertificates: Error 0x80070057: Failed to get SHA1 hash of
certificate.
InstallCertificates: Error 0x80070057: Failed to resolve certificate:
ServiceCertificate
Action ended 15:36:18: InstallCertificates. Return value 3.

I have absolutely no clue as to what may cause it. Any help?
