apparently (according to the debian dependencies) it uses wrlib.

maybe voins would be interested in joining us? i wonder if sir raorn

i don't remember any earth-shattering changes in wrlib, maybe simply 
relinking wdm would help.

i do it like this: i have my distros ye olde packages installed in 
system locations with their deps and stuff, then i have my xinitrc 
like this:

WINDOWMAKER_ALT_WM=/usr/bin/wmaker; export WINDOWMAKER_ALT_WM
PATH=/opt/wm/bin:$PATH
exec wmaker

with wmaker-crm being installed to /opt/wm.

with this, i have a known working wm in case i happen to completely 
screw something up, and libraries don't mix.

i don't know how to turn this into something that works with display 
managers, but i think there too is something similar to xinitrc.
