Media General this week added three more furlough days to the 10 days previously announced. -----Original Message----- From: Richard de Give Sent: Mar 6, 2009 2:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: ,,,,,of the story... Got this feeling there's gonna be more "formula" news -- car crashes, overreaction to someone just accused of child molestation, canned health and financial reports, 10 minutes of weather (even on sunny, clear days), the scores (if they haven't given up on a sports segment completely, figuring anyone who cares is watching "SportsCenter," which may one day be about stories not involving the Red Sox, Yankees, Cowboys or Celtics again), lots of dogs nursing kittens or cats playing poker, all delivered by a bleached blonde (or a member of the predominant minority in the community) and a studly-looking surfer boy -- and that important stuff like city council? Oh yeah, we'll leave that to the newspaper, which is downsizing too. And they wonder why local news isn't selling, besides the economy? Maybe because it all looks the same. To: [email protected] Date: Friday, March 6, 2009, 11:22 AM I hadn't, but -- http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/03/the_staff_of_wtvh_laid.html Looks like it's happening in Peoria, Ill., too. The station didn't close -- just the newsroom. I expect a *whole* lot more of this. In a Coke-or-Pepsi world, there are an awful lot of television station RC Colas out there waiting to be bumped. ====== AIM/Gmail Chat: damonbeau :: :: Wealth without work.
