Hi Mike,
it appears it is not to the metadata as I just tried a file without
metadata and WMP can't open it.
I suspect Audacity is exporting the file slightly differently than it
read it and that change is significant.
You didn't say which player was having difficulty, is it Windows Media
Player (WMP)?

I changed the year to just 2016 and Windows 7/10 now recognizes it,
plays it, and shows detail info. Though not the Comments and Software
fields....are those custom tags?
Perhaps need to put the datetime in another field.

ouch, I sort of expected something like this as Windows is
appalling on
WAV file metadata which is a PITA considering WAV is a Microsoft
format :(
Are you saying Windows File Explorer is seeing the files
differently or
are you saying that a media player is not recognizing them. If the
latter which media player?
Can you check if Audacity can still recognize them and play them.
