Hi Phil,

WSJT-X should not be doing get or set mode Hamlib commands if 
"Settings->Radio->Mode" is set to "None" but there may be some 
complication when the "Hamlib NET rigctl" back end is involved. At start 
up some mode queries are only protected by checking if the function is 
available and I believe the NET rigctl backend does not correctly 
enumerate which functions are available at the remote end.

I need to find out which mode query is getting triggered, I can do this 
most easily by sending you an instrumented version of WSJT-X. Which 
Ubuntu version and platform are you using -- I can only currently build 
installers for 14.04.xx LTS and 16.04.xx LTS on Intel 32 or 64-bit.
