Fat fingers hit the wrong key.  here;s the whole thing

If your serial interface uses the older Prolific 2303 chipset it may be
running into a common driver problem with this component.  Evidently at
some point Prolific modified their driver to test for and disable the
counterfeit Chinese versions of the chip.  You can do a search for the
earlier version of the driver and replace the Win10 installed version of
the driver and things will work again.

You can check if it's a driver problem:
      Open Device Manager
       Click on Ports
       Right click on the serial port you're using for rig control.
        Select "Properties"
       If it says something about a "Code 10" error you've got the driver
problem.  A search on the web will give you the older versions of the
driver as well as instructions on how to install it if you need the help.
