I was an early adopter because JT65 allowed me to ham and not disturb my sick
wife.
The learning curve took a while, even after a long time on 600 meters with WSPR
experience.
I have not written a line of code since the company said I was too old 12 years
ago,
so I am now just a "user" who knows ->from experience<- what problems "users"
can cause.
I may have a solution.....
I can imagine a needed DX location with a "fox" that hundreds of people have
been told (urban-legend style) can be worked easily with just 100 watts and
FT8.
When the DXpedition makes the first contact;
First the web site is hit with download-itus cramps.
Next the people lash-together cables for the speaker plug and microphone plug
and run up the gains.
Then they see the "tune" button and tune up the G5RV on frequency full power
with the manual tuner.
Then the resulting one-frequency melee makes a microwave oven field seem puny.
-=-=-=-
At age 77 I live one day at a time and don't know when the first FT8 Fox
DXpedition is due, but I may be able to learn the setup for FT8 "fox & hounds"
in time to make it work for me and create a preliminary popup manual.
For example;
When the install program is run it contains a timer and message that tells the
user "you must read or listen to the following manual" and "XX minutes are
going to expire before the install will continue so you will read it".
The final manual will require better authors than I ever was, and authors with
different levels of ham experience and reading skills. The ARRL podcasts may
help the blind and print-handicapped.
A voice message in the installer for the blind, impatient, or print-handicapped
to tell them the URL for a reading of the manual may help.
-=-=-=-
This manual is probably a job for someone younger and better than myself, but
you are all developing code and it probably won't get done unless I do
"something".
Just let me know,
Pat W5THT
