FT8 and FT4 address only one type of Amateur Radio communication: the minimal QSO with exchange of callsigns and possibly signal reports, locators, acknowledgments, and signoff.

These QSOs can be fun, but ham radio is *far* more than reflected in this type of minimal information exchange.
