Hi Bill & Team,

I continued tests I’d mentioned to Bill (off-list) to refine a reproducible
sequence (on my rig) for ‘Tx with no Audio’.

i.e. Tx is shown on both WSJT-X & Rig but no audio signal.

On my setup, I found a sequence (see Test Details below) which fails
consistently; tested >30 times.

What I observe (in Win10 Sound Panel):

Enabling my Bluetooth headset during a Tx cycle, consistently causes WSJT-X to
change its Playback device for the next & subsequent TX cycles; even though in
WSJT-X File|Settings|Audio it is still shown correctly.

My ‘6- USB Audio Codec’ (to the Rig) is the ‘Default Communication Device’.

The symptom ‘No Audio’ is because the next Tx cycle audio goes to the wrong
device (which happens to be the ‘Default Device’ in my Sound Panel).

Conjecture: Adding an Audio device (e.g. my Headset during Tx) causes WSJT-X to
re-evaluate the pool of Sound playback devices and the wrong device is then
selected.

I can run a Debug/Logging version if it helps.

TEST DETAILS

Configuration:

System: Win10, IC-7300 (direct USB, i.e. not flrig)

Rig: Dummy Load, Min power (1%) which creates 1W. Monitor On (so I can hear the
modulation)

Ancillary: I have a Bluetooth Headset (BlueParrot) connected to a different USB
Port on the PC.

WSJT-X: Tx%=100 (so it will Tx in every full cycle).

Sequence:

Headset=off

Start WSJT-X, Confirm the rc-2 warning; Set Enable Tx=On (‘Tx Next’ not needed
because Tx%=100).

Wait until first Tx starts (it always goes to the correct device)

~10 secs into the first Tx Cycle, switch on Headset (slide-switch on headset).

Result: The next WSJT-X Tx cycle has Tx but no Audio.

Exit WSJT-X

Observations:

After the ‘Tx with no Audio’ cycle starts, switching off the headset has no
effect; appears WSJT-X is ‘latched’ into the ‘Tx with no Audio’ condition.

I’ve looked in the Win10 main Event logs; there were no entries during my
testing.
