This is correct, only the pages that you ask to be deleted will be
deleted.  Any other pages that are referenced from those pages will
stay in the cache.

No, there is nothing in the purge settings that will allow you to
delete the content that is linked to from a particular page.

If you set up the purging to use the modification time then it will
tend to delete associated pages at the same time, but will not
guarantee it or force it.
