Blasphemy Jon ;-) For some apps that makes sense. My company's apps require access to the client's Oracle database and our own Mysql database on the web, so a browser app isn't going to work.
In general web apps are good for light weight, database oriented tasks. But for usability, response, wealth of widgets, general appearance and ( most importantly ) 'statefulness' you can't beat a desk top app. And it still has web access besides. Now my 2 cents ;-) : What so magical about a web browser ? A browser/javascript combo is a just a crippled desktop app. Why not package up an app that does exactly what you want? You can dynamically update the code so only the initial install is required. It won't be broken by the next browser/javascript update. Make the install a 'no brainer' - you don't even have to involve admins if you really don't want. In my opinion much easier to maintain.
