Oops, something must have gone wrong there ...
I'll see about updating the macports ticket (should I give that priority over 
other things on my plate?); given the lack about enthusiasm there I had given 
up on that.

Those are up to date. As you can imagine the logic of getting these patches 
into MacPorts is a bit more complicated than simply incorporating them into 
something that's distributed as a binary installer.

Also reminds me that I haven't seen any Infinality updates announced via the 
usual channels.

A large part of the original patches has been merged at some point, I don't 
know why the rest hasn't been. There are no legal issues for regular desktop 
use that I'm aware of, but there may be other Freetype applications where those 
remaining patches do represent some kind of problem.
