Works for me with XQuartz 2.7.8  (xorg-server 1.16.4) displaying back from 
remote server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and nvidia libGL.so.352.79 
driver

However, using XQuartz 2.7.9 I get the error you guys are reporting.  

Same with XQuartz 2.7.10 beta 1. 

So the issue appears to have started in 2.7.9 whatever it is.
