Hi David,
Thanks for the other idea. No effect though. I thought ssh -Y had long subverted this older-style xhost largesse...

Did you try adding

xhost +

just before the ssh command?

Hi Merle,
Of course. I did google a fair bit first on obvious things...
Thanks for the thought though.
James.

Have you enabled X11Forwarding in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file on the remote OSX machine?

All,
I too think there is something weird about remote X11 on current Xquartz.
It does work for my for a remote Linux, but not a remote OSX. Does anyone else
have luck with remote X11 to another mac?
For example

% ssh -Yvvv user@OSXmachine
  produces....
....
debug2: x11_get_proto: /opt/X11/bin/xauth  list :0 2>/dev/null
debug1: Requesting X11 forwarding with authentication spoofing.
debug2: channel 0: request x11-req confirm 1

debug2: channel 0: request env confirm 0
...
debug2: channel 0: request shell confirm 1
....
X11 forwarding request failed on channel 0

And then no X forwarding will work.
I have googled a fair bit already.
Any wisdom welcome?

Cheers
        James.
