John I tried Spice on Ubuntu and it does work pretty well and it is under heavy development but the rub for me was that it required a separate vm for each user's remote desktop.
So I didn't see any way to use it on a server that is itself virtualized in a cloud as I don't think there is anything like nested virtualization (yet).
